Physical Fitness
Truman is a great place to enhance your physical wellness. Whether you are training for a half marathon or you are looking for a fun way to relax and take a study break, there’s something here for you.
The Student Recreation Center is always a great place to start for your physical fitness needs. Regular Hours are Mondays – Thursdays 6:30am – 11:00pm, Fridays 6:30am – 9:00pm, Saturdays 9:00am – 7:00pm, and Sundays 11:00am – 7:00pm.
The Basics
- Shoot for 30 minutes of physical activity everyday. Keep in mind, you don’t have to exercise continuously for a half-hour. Moving for ten minutes at a time will help you to achieve health benefits. For example, simply walking to class in Barnett and back can help fulfill the minimum recommendations for physical activity.
- Strengthening muscles is important and should be done twice a week. Work your arms, back, chest, legs and abdomen with free and machine weights at the Rec, in your dorm room or apartment with resistance bands, or by shoveling and digging at the Communiversity Garden or University Farm.
- At least twice a week, try to increase the intensity of your physical activity. Use the talk test: if you must pause to take a breath after saying a few words while participating in physical activity, you will reap the benefits of vigorous intensity activity.
