Safe Partying
Tips from the Student Health Center
- Go out with friends you trust
- Always watch your drink
- Don’t accept drinks from other people
Tips from the CHEERS program
- Designate a sober driver before you go out
- The sober driver should be someone who doesn’t have even one drink, not the least drunk person.
- Get free non-alcoholic drinks at La Fuente, La Pachanga, Pagliais, Bonsai, Bellacino’s, Woody’s, the Wooden Nickel, and Dukum Inn when you are the designated sober driver.
Tips from the KPD (Kirksville Police Department)
- Don’t Lie- if the cops ask for your ID, don’t tell them you left it at home and make up your age. You can be charged with “interference with duties of a law enforcement officer”.
- Don’t provide alcohol to minors. Even if you don’t provide the alcohol, you can still be held responsible for underage drinking that occurs in your house or apartment.
- Do be polite and cooperative. If the police show up at your door and you handle the situation in mature manner, the officers will be less likely to personally remove people from your house and shut down the party.
Tips for your friend
- Don’t let your intoxicated friend drive
- Lay your intoxicated friend on his or her side to minimize choking risk
- Get help or call 911 if needed
- STAY with your drunk friend
Tips for you
- Keep track of how much you drink
- Remember that Truman has a dry campus policy which means no alcohol on campus
- Also remember that the body is considered a container so if you are intoxicated on campus, you are violating the dry campus policy
